Admitting

Admitting, Registration and Scheduling at Winchester Hospital

In most cases, your doctor’s office will notify Winchester Hospital that you will be admitted – either for a surgical outpatient procedure or for a longer inpatient stay. Your doctor’s office will coordinate the day and time for your procedure.

Winchester Hospital offers two locations for surgery – at the hospital itself, or at our Ambulatory Surgery Center at 620 Washington Street in Winchester.

  • If you are going to be returning home the same day after your surgery, you may be having your surgery at our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center instead of the hospital. Your doctor will determine the most appropriate location based on your needs.

  • If you need to come in ahead of time for any preadmissions tests, all preadmissions testing is done at the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Your doctor’s office can help arrange this testing. Get directions to the Ambulatory Surgery Center.

  • A representative from Winchester Hospital’s Central Scheduling Office will call you before your stay to confirm your admission and to pre-register you.

On the Day You Arrive

Please leave jewelry and other valuables at home, or give them to the person who may have accompanied you.

  • If you have having surgery that day at Winchester Hospital, please go directly to Day Surgery.

  • If you are having an outpatient test or procedure, please go to the area where you will receive the services, such as the Laboratory or Radiology.

Speak Up

Everyone has a role in making health care safe. In addition to health care professionals, patients and family members play a vital role in making care safe by being active, involved and informed.

Research shows that patients who take part in decisions about their health care are more likely to have better and safer outcomes. As a patient, we invite you to:

  • Speak up if you have questions or concerns. If you still don’t understand, ask again. It’s your body and you have a right to know.

  • Pay special attention to the care you get. Always make sure you’re getting the correct treatments and medicines from the right health care professionals. Don’t assume anything.

  • Educate yourself about your illness by learning about your treatment plan and medical tests.

  • Ask a trusted family member or friend to be your advocate (advisor or supporter).

  • Know what medicines you take and why you take them. Medication errors are the most common health care mistakes.

  • Participate in all decisions about your treatment. You are the center of the health care team.
